This is my first of a number of collages I will create and share with you from my vast collection of original 45s with their original sleeves; this one is dedicated to those boys who American Bandstand helped catapult to national fame. They are:

THE GOLDEN BOYS!

Namely: Frankie Avalon of Venus fame. the Wild One himself, Bobby Rydell, and that Tiger who asked, “Turn Me Loose,” Fabian — all handsone as all get out displayed on a cool cat’s coat… meow!

Look forward to more…

Wow, Don’t you just love it, that we can still get excited, after 50 years, to still enjoy live concerts of THE GOLDEN BOYS..Bobby, Fabian, and Frankie!! They were the most popular teen idols of the late 50′s and 60′s..They performed many times on American Bandstand,.and are still performing to packed venues all over the country since 1985..Saw them in March, and plans in the making, to see them again in Feb..Once just isn’t isn’t enough!!!..Three of Philly’s best!! The Golden Boys, recent ‘Malt Shop Memories’ is now being aired on PBS..Check your local, stations, throughout the month of August…You won’t be dissapointed..In the concert, Frankie was singing, and a woman stood up, and with a big surprised grin,he said ‘its Arlene from Bandstand’.Of course a HUG was in order!! Very touching!!

    • Hi Janice,

Of course, the Arlene in the audience was none other than American Bandstand Regular Arlene Sullivan.

Arlene is one of the most charming people you’ll ever meet.

To paraphrase Virgil, Arlene has the face that sank a thousand Bandstanders. She is incredibly photogenic, right up until this day.

Arlene and I have spent lots of time together. She’s fun and adventurous.

Arlene accompanied me on my interview in New Orleans with Antoine (Fats) Domino, and I accompanied her in Branson, Missouri for the Dick Clark Theater opening; and we’ve visited each other at our homes, and out about the two towns — Philadelphia and New York.

There was a similiar story when she and I attended a Paul Anka event but even more interesting. I’ll have to get that up for you guys.

Whenever the name American Bandstand comes up, Arlene’s name is in the next sentence. Few reached the height of her and Kenny Rossi’s popularity.

The next time she is around, you should say hello. It would be my guess, you’ll get a big warm “Hello” back.

Your story is touching and thanks for sharing it with eveyone…

Arlene Sullivan is a very honest and upfront person. I admire this. She is one of the Super Star Regulars with instant name recognition for those who watched her daily. Arlene and Kenny were a very familiar sight to millions and we adored them for just being themselves. They were also good dancers.
