Oceanside High School Class of 1960…..

SUNDAY SEA CRUISE…..
There is a great site for Fifties and Sixties memories and celebration — OCEANSIDE HIGH SCHOOL Class of 1960.
Be prepared, this is not just about a local high school, it is much more. Oceanside High School, Howard Levy’s website, is loaded with tons of information about the period and packed full of fun and facts. It is comprehensive, well written and…you’re gonna love it! In short, it is impressive.
I have added a direct link to the American Bandstand section on my links section which is to the right of each blog page, but above is a link to the homepage of the site where you can just “cruise” away.
In part, Howard writes:

~~~~Thanks for writing, Charles. I am on the road now but was able to take a brief look at your site (although it’s difficult to view and navigate it with my BlackBerry), and I will take a closer look when I get back.
I presume a search led you to my Bandstand page (among the 200 or so others pages on my site). When I created it, I saw it as the best Bandstand page on the web — but not any more! Even on my BlackBerry, I can readily see yours is as professional, high quality, comprehensive and scholarly an examination of this important part of our cultural history as one would expect from an author with your credentials. I will be pleased to link my site to yours and proud to have you reciprocate….Interesting, your closing paragraph to me contained the same message as I got some years ago from renowned DJ, Bruce Morrow (“Cousin Brucie”).
And I will look forward to buying your book and placing it in my collection alongside Dick Clark’s “Rock, Roll and Remember.”
Thanks for your kind words of praise….. ~~~~
And, thank you, Howard.
Howard’s grasp of our website further impressed me.
Though we have lots of fun here and I try to keep it light, my efforts have been first and foremost to document the history of American Bandstand and its synergy to the music and dance of the period, and to present it as fully and accurately as possible. In The Princes and Princesses of Dance/The Follies of Fame, you will see that we do get a little more serious — a little, just a little.
and offer up a step short of a surfeit of surprises.
Certainly, on Bandstand’s Best we pay homage and tribute to all of this, but along with the gratitude we have for those dancers who — perhaps unwittingly — gave us so much pleasure, it is to honestly portray them, the show, and the times as Bandstand’s Best possible.
Never too hackneyed to repeat these memorable lines. Charles Dickens says it best.
“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times,
it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness,
it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity,
it was the season of Light, it was season of Darkness,
it was the spirit of hope, it was the winter of despair,
we had everything before us, we had nothing before us,
we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way….”
Please, visit Oceanside High School’s website. Say hello to Howard and tell him — like Bruce Morrow/Cousin Brucie and I have — what a great job he is doing in keeping the memories alive.
Ciao for now….
I’d just like to say that everyone from the graduating class of Oceanside 1960 are so very proud of Howie for his accomplishment in making the class webside such a wonderful place to visit when we want to look back at our school days. Many of us have remained in touch due to his hard work.
Thanks Howie
