AMERICAN BANDSTAND — STIFF AS STARCH –THOSE AMERICAN BANDSTAND COLLARS —

TUESDAY TALLY –
We have some new friends joining us in the magical kingdom of the Princes and Princesses of Dance.
Mr. Danny Murphy recently contacted me and asked if he could give a big mention of Bandstand’s Best on his website — web-to-web, so to speak.
You’ll find a new link to the right. It’s the class of 1961 and they love American Bandstand and now they have found our castle to come and cavort. I have done much cavorting in my day, I’d say. Surprised? Hmmmmmmm
Danny was asking about the Bandstand collars that many thought were a Bandstand invention. Actually, their adaption to suit the Catholic school girl’s uniforms popularized them even more. Danny sent me these four photos. They are taken from the Guthrie High School 1961 yearbook. Just super! Single and/or double click the collage to enlarge.
Ya see, ya see, the Peter Pan collar in all of its stylish interpretations goes all the way back to Peter Pan and even Pre-Peter. But as I told Danny, though the American Bandstand Regulars may not have invented everything, they certainly put their twist and spin on it, giving it a whole new meaning.
BTW, unless you have been living under a Bandstand boulder, that is American Bandstand Regular, Arlene Sullivan. She looks incredibly beautiful here, and her collar is Bandstand bodacious. I mean there is just so much to be said for understatement.
Did you know that Peter Pan never wanted to grow up or learn to read or write or go to school and become a parrot and recite a silly rule? Interesting, Peter Pan had a fondness for green.
So let’s give a big shout out to all the fans in Oklahoma and the Class of 1961 at Guthrie High School and a special hello to Danny Murphy….
On another note, Pop Singer’s granddaughter, Lynne, posted on the Paradise Lost blog. You can go directly there by clicking this link: Paradise Lost. Click your back arrow to return here or click on the blue ping back link at the bottom of that page — your choice.
It is so nice to see Lynne again. She sent me a further email telling me how thrilled she was about our site and all of your expressions of love for her grandfather. Nice, really, really nice.
and…
Ciao for now….
