Barbara Marcen –
Barbara Marcen was one of the earliest Regulars on American Bandstand. She started in the Bob Horn Bandstand days, went on to Dick Clark’s Bandstand and then to American Bandstand. She never skipped a beat.
Barbara is what I have coined a Bandstand Crossover. She, like Rosalie Beltrante and others, was right there when Bandstand was a little baby. Barbara received major camera time and is a self-proclaimed camera hog — just ask her.
Back in the Bob Horn days, Barbara partnered with early Bandstand legend, Tommy DeNoble. In this collage you will see rare shots of Tommy. Notice on the side table in one of the photos is a framed photo of Tommy. They were very close friends.
Speaking of friends, Barbara is a close friend of mine. We speak often and have attended affairs together and she has come to mine. She has the greatest sense of humor and the energy of a teenager. She is still a very good dancer and has maintained that inimitable Bandstand style. Some stake claim to having the Bandstand moves, but Barbara really does. She could teach a course.
Hey, what a great idea that would be. Get ready class. Single and/or double click on the collage to enlarge.
You can see Barbara leading off Double Dancing with another of my good friends, the late Joe Fusco on of Documenting the Dance Part 2 on our YouTube channel Bandstand’s Best.
Watch Barbara fly!!!!
So let’s wish our future dance instructor Barbara Marcen a speedy recovery and get her back hogging the camera as only Barbara can, right here on Bandstand’s Best.
One of Barbara’s favorite phrases in describing her friends is, “Doll Baby.” Ya know what? That describes her perfectly.
She’s a Doll Baby!
Ciao for now….
